All season long the Big East has been touted as the top power conference in basketball and rightfully so with four teams at any one time in the Top 25 but in the NCAA Tournament, reputation means nothing.  Teams have nothing to lose and everything to gain.  Bring you’re A game or go home and three teams from the Big East will do just that.

President Barack Obama may get questioned on his health care bill but people respect his hoops game.  President Obama correctly predicted Murray St, BYU, and St. Mary’s would all advance the second round.  He did slip on the Old Dominion pick. ODU upset the Fighting Irish.   Overall, it wasn’t a bad first day for the President.  Below are the winners and losers of the first day of competition.

Strength and Conditioning Coach Ray Wright

 

On his training philosophy:

“What we want to try and focus on is football specific.  We want to get as specific as we can with a lift.  If it’s a bench press, we want them to come down slow, come up fast and work on explosion.  If it’s a run, we want to be specific on the run.  If we get defensive backs, we want them back pedaling in a certain drill.  We don’t want to just come out and run 10 100s.  We want to try and get the yardage that we want to accomplish for that day but we want to be as specific as we can so we take that position and try to put those guys through similar movements that they’ll do when they start practice.”
